I am a Melbourne based artist working with collage, sculpture and photography. I graduated with a BFA (Painting) from RMIT University in 2006 before going on to complete my BFA (Honours) at the Victorian College of the Arts. In 2009 I was awarded the Henry James Williams Scholarship to undertake my Master of Fine Art (by Research) at the VCA. I have exhibited my work extensively throughout Australia at galleries such as KINGS A.R.I, Anna Pappas, Lindberg Contemporary & the Queensland Centre for Photography.
I have been the recipient of various awards and grants, including the National Gallery of Victoria’s Trustees Award (2007), Vulcan Steel Art Award (2010), Australia Council ArtStart Grant (2010) and Australia Council New Work Grant (2012). In 2014 I undertook two international residencies at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris & the Australia Council Tokyo Studio.
My work typically explores fetishistic relationships between the body and sculptural form, drawing influence from the worlds of fashion design, architecture & science fiction. My sculptures, which are often presented both in their three dimensional form and frozen within the photographic frame, resemble uncanny corporeal fragments and assemblages which speak about the body as a site of fracture, enclosure & transformation. The sense of play which permeates the work harbours both frivolity & menace, an ambiguity which entertains the possibility of perverse sexual play, violence or more innocent explorations of material and form.
